Youth, Families & Aging
The LGBTQI+ community is an intergenerational one. This committee provides education and programming for all ages. We also center various types of family formations and dynamics, including, but not limited to, co-parenting, aging in place, polyamorous families, and system involved youth.
"I joined this commission because I recognize that moving towards an inclusive and intentional future for ALL LGBTQIA+ New Yorkers is in ensuring we have intergenerational power and representation from modern families and parents from the tip of Montauk to the tops of the North Country to the bellows of Buffalo. We are better to making space for all the beautiful complexities our community holds in our push towards progress, together."

In 2022, officially making New York state a designated safe haven for trans youth, their families and their health care providers. Equality New York worked with a coalition of LGBTQI organizations to pass this landmark bill. Equality New York’s Tanya Asapansa Johnson Walker & Ace Sutherland were leaders in getting this legislative win.
Why is this important?
Since the beginning of 2023, there have been more than 500 anti-LGBTQI+ bills introduced in the United States of America. Equality New York has been and continues to be at the forefront of the fight for queer and trans liberation both locally and state-wide.
